Valentine’s Day is this week, and most people are thinking about the bonds of human love.
Me: I’m thinking about the human-animal bond, and podcasts about pets.
One of my favorite Valentine’s Day memories is from when I was 11 or 12. I was too young to have a romantic love interest, and too old for exchanging cards at school. The holiday was kind of lost on me.
That night, after dinner, my parents presented me with a Valentine card...from my dog. A simple piece of paper with his paw print in ink.
I remember thinking that my dog, Max, was probably PISSED that Mom and Dad put his paw in ink (don’t worry: they washed it off right after).
Still, Max was the kind of dog who hated it when I put him in outfits (see the photo below - he is so unimpressed), and he wasn’t keen on his paws being touched.
I loved my valentine from Max. It’s a favorite memory of mine.
That’s why I think Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to recommend podcasts about pets. Because they bring us joy and comfort and unconditional love.
I don’t have any pets right now, but I do listen to a couple of podcasts about dogs. And I found many more to recommend.
To my surprise, I found far fewer podcasts about cats, or being a cat owner. (As a “dog person”, I could make some jokes here, but I know that “cat people” are fierce, so I won’t mess with them!) Cat people: here's your opportunity to start a new podcast!
Whether you're a current pet owner, have fond memories of past pets, or just an animal lover at heart, these podcasts will bring a smile to your face.
Fun & Educational Podcasts for Pet Owners
1. Can I Pet Your Dog?
The first time I saw the title of this podcast, I had to subscribe. I love any opportunity to pet or play with someone else’s dog!
The hosts of Can I Pet Your Dog? are dog enthusiasts. They get giddy just talking about their latest pet-sitting adventure, or a dog they saw at the park. Their excitement is so contagious that I started following them on Twitter (because puppy pics and videos).

Episodes come out weekly, average 50 minutes, and include educational info about dog breeds, chatter about new pet products, and special guests (both human and canine).
2. The Community Cats Podcast
This interview-format podcast introduces you to people who are saving cats all over the world. You'll learn about how their love of cats turned into rescue efforts, and then rescue organizations.
The podcast mission statement reads, To provide education, information and dialogue that will create a supportive environment empowering people to help cats in their community.
With such a shortage of podcasts dedicated to cats, I had to recommend this one. It shines a spotlight on the very best cat lovers, and will inspire you to think differently the next time you see a stray kitten.

3. Pet Radio Show
This podcast has been around since 2011, and is still pumping out new episodes (sometimes multiple times per week!)
Pet Radio Show is a lighthearted podcast that discusses a variety of topics in the pet world. From using aromatherapy for your pet, to animal rescue operations, and fashion trends for the furry. One of my favorite episodes is about a blind cat who helps blind children.
Episodes average about 20 minutes each, and are entertaining while being educational.
Bonus: The show’s website has tons of great pet photos and information, and all of it - including the podcast episodes - is tagged, to help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
4. The Dog Trainer (Quick and Dirty Tips for Teaching and Caring for Your Pet)
I’m a big fan of most of the Quick and Dirty Tips podcasts. The Dog Trainer is now out of production, but there's a huge feed of episodes filled with great info.
Whether you need to teach your dog the basics (Sit, Stay, Down), or want to better understand canine behavior, there's an episode for you. This show is a quick and easy way to improve your overall relationship with your dog.
Each episode of The Dog Trainer is under 10 minutes. And even though they talk dogs, there’s an episode about understanding cats.
5. The Pet Doctor
This podcast from Pet Life Radio focuses on all aspects of caring for your pet, whether you have a dog, cat, lizard, bird, or other kind of pet.
The guests on each episode of The Pet Doctor are practicing veterinarians, who provide tips and information on a variety of information. Think: emergency first aid, the best and worst pet foods, medication for your pet, and pet insurance (to pay for those medications!)
New episodes come out once per month, and average about 30 minutes. Not a big time commitment to get super important information for your loved one.

I will definitely have to check out some of these. I have already listened to one (The Pet Doctor), so this is a good list for new ones. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Yvonne! Thank you! I’m glad to help you find something new!
